Clodoveo Rodriguez, 78, resident of San Rafael Las Flores, Guatemala, refuses to sell his land to Tahoe Resources' El Escobal, or San Rafael, silver mine. As all his neighbors have sold their parcels, Mr. Rodriguez' land plot is now completely surrounded by the mine and enclosed by a chain-link fenced raised by the US-Canadian mining company. The San Rafael Mine, 60% owned by US-based Tahoe Resources and 40% by Canadian mining giant Goldcorp, has been operating since 2011 without having previously consulted the local residents - a violation to numerous international conventions. San Rafael Las Flores, Santa Rosa, Guatemala. March 28, 2012.
