La Puya Resistance Against Unwanted Gold Mine

Local women serve food to those participating in the peaceful blockade outside the entrance gate to El Tambor gold mine. Since March 2nd, 2012, local neighbors from San José del Golfo and San Pedro Ayampuc have blocked the entrance to the proposed mining site. The project, owned by Canadian mining company Radius Gold, is run by its local subsidiary EXMINGUA. Residents from the communities claim the industrial activity in their territories as illegal since they were not appropriately consulted before the mine began operating.
